Two courts in one

One Court. Two roles.

The Caribbean Court of Justice serves the region in two distinct ways. Choose the one that applies to you.

Original Jurisdiction

The treaty court of the Caribbean Community

As an international court, the CCJ interprets and applies the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas — resolving disputes under the CARICOM Single Market and Economy for all 12 CSME Member States, their citizens, businesses, and governments.

Appellate Jurisdiction

The region's final court of appeal

As the final court of appeal, the CCJ hears civil and criminal appeals from the member states that have acceded — replacing the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council for Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Guyana, and Saint Lucia.

Not sure which applies to you? Appeals in ordinary civil or criminal cases fall under the Appellate Jurisdiction; disputes about rights under the Revised Treaty (trade, free movement, CSME) fall under the Original Jurisdiction.
