Court Statistics

Welcome to the Digest of Original Jurisdiction Cases!

The Digest of Original Jurisdiction Cases contains summaries of the decisions issued by the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) in its Original Jurisdiction (OJ).  In the OJ, the CCJ decides on matters concerning the freedom of movement of people, goods, services, capital, labour/skills and the right of establishment. These summaries were developed through the collaborative effort of the CCJ and the TradeLab Clinic at The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Cave Hill, Barbados. The Clinic is directed by Dr Jan Yves Remy, Director of the Shridath Ramphal Centre and Dr Ronnie Yearwood, Lecturer in the Faculty of Law at the Cave Hill campus.

In 2021, under the supervision of Dr. Remy and Mr. Claude Chase, four UWI TradeLab students from the Cave Hill Faculty of Law (namely Ms Chelsea Lawrence, Ms Mya Brathwaite, Mr James Morris and Ms Régine Mondesir) developed the summaries for the 34 OJ decisions issued by the CCJ over the period July 2008 to December 2020.

These summaries are not intended to be a substitute for the decisions of the Caribbean Court of Justice.
